Shannon Murphy opened BodySense PT as its sole owner in June 2008. She holds a Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) and has been working in outpatient rehabilitation for over fifteen years. Her educational highlights include academic honors from Davidson College in Charlotte, NC; international exposure to PT & sports medicine at the University of Queensland, Australia, and high placement in her graduating PT class from the University of MD, Baltimore. She is a graduate of Leadership Washington County (Class XXII) and active in her community — including involvement on the Boonsboro Town Council Aquatic/Rec Center Advisory Committee and spearheading a town race for its recent 225th Anniversary. Her professional experience has focused on outpatient orthopedics, neurology, and entrepreneurship. She began her career on the inpatient side of Frederick Memorial Hospital before transitioning to an outpatient role with National Rehabilitation Hospital in Germantown. During her tenure with NRH, Shannon developed specialty programs in aquatic and vestibular rehab, while refining manual skills in the treatment of complex spine and joint disorders. Her continuing education has included extensive training in manual techniques and biomechanics, including a rigorous course series and certification in myofascial trigger point (MTrP) dry needling with Myopain Seminars in Bethesda, MD. She has also completed training in Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) techniques, osteopathic/muscle energy techniques, cognitive pain science, neurodynamics, and various sports medicine topics that add to her eclectic skill set. In recent years, Shannon has enjoyed UVA’s annual Running Medicine Conference in Charlottesville, VA and earned certification in regenerative Astym® therapy. On the business side, Shannon continues to elevate her entrepreneurial skills with other owners in The Practice Freedom Method (TPFM) mentorship program. Although she still enjoys patient care, Shannon’s current focus is on leading the company, mentoring staff, and fostering a creative / holistic atmosphere for all treatment in the clinic.
Allison joined us in 2016 as a PRN physical therapist. She is a Washington County native who returned to MD after earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri in 2003 (Bachelor of Exercise Science), and 2005 (Master of Physical Therapy (MPT)). Prior to BodySensePT, Allison’s professional tenure includes eight years at Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute, as both a staff PT and later as Clinical Director of its busy rehab department. She has extensive outpatient experience in all areas of orthopedic rehab, including the treatment of complex and post-surgical spine conditions. She has also worked in a PRN capacity with home and facility-based geriatric populations throughout her outpatient career. Her post-professional education has focused on developing a range of manual therapy techniques through the Institute of Physical Art and University of St Augustine, as well as lower limb biomechanics through Vasyli Medical. Last year, she also added Astym® certification in regenerative soft tissue therapy to her list of treatment skills. Allison has an accomplished athletic history in soccer, basketball, and golf, and draws on that background in treating our athletes of all ages. Pursuing TPI golf certification is on her list of clinical interests. Following her initial stint in PRN work, Allison joined us full-time in 2016 and earned promotion to Clinical Director in 2017. Allison’s steady and efficient nature provides a solid foundation for both patient-care and operational management. She is currently working to develop her management skills through an extension of The Practice Freedom Method (TPFM) program.
Dr. Jason McElroy joined our team in 2010. Like Shannon, he also graduated from the University of MD, Baltimore. Jason earned his Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) in 1999, followed by a later course of study to earn his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of Montana in 2012. His early professional experience involved managing patients with complex illnesses at Western Maryland Hospital Center, developmental disabilities at Potomac Center, and acute rehab needs at Washington County Hospital. In 2004, he pursued a new direction in outpatient care with Robinwood Orthopaedics (now CAO – Robinwood Division), where he spent 7 years working with local orthopedic physicians to treat a wide range of surgical and non-surgical conditions. His interest in manual therapy and 1:1 patient care brought Jason to BodySense PT, where he has continued to develop his range of therapeutic techniques. He has completed two levels of training in craniosacral therapy with the Upledger Institute, a multi-course head and neck program with CranioFascial Academy of Therapists (CRAFTA), and the rigorous certification program in MTrP dry needling with Myopain Seminars. Last year, he also added Astym® certification to his list of techniques and credentials. His combination of training makes him a valuable resource for patients with cervical, headache and TMD/TMJ dysfunction. His affable nature and quirky sense of humor also make him a crowd favorite among patients and staff.

Like Allison, Dr. Abby Rudesill initially joined our team for PRN coverage in 2016. She is a native of Myersville, MD who returned to Frederick County after a decade of city life. Abby earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in dance (ballet) from Marymount Manhattan College in Brooklyn, NY in 2005 and spent two years dancing professionally for the Ballethnic Dance Company in Atlanta, GA. Following her dance career, Abby returned to NYC to pursue her physical therapy education. She graduated magna cum laude with her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Long Island University in NYC in 2011. Since that time, Abby has worked with a number of professional dancers and performing artists. She has advanced her manual therapy skills through a number of courses with the prestigious Maitland Australian Physiotherapy organization and passed a daunting exam to earn her Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) credentials. Last year, she added certification in Astym® treatment to her foundation of evidence-based medicine and currently is pursuing certification in MTrP dry needling through Myopain Seminars. Her combination of ballet training and manual skills makes her a versatile clinician for dancers and mere mortals alike. After working in a Clinical Director role with Amber Hill Physical Therapy in Thurmont, MD, Abby joined BodySensePT fulltime in June 2017. She is a quiet powerhouse and exceptional human being whom we feel incredibly lucky to have on our team.
