Jason Ury received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Clarkson University, and his Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY Stony Brook. He also received his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. During his Doctoral Education, he was involved in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He was selected to participate in the New York Physical Therapy Association’s (NYPTA) Director’s Intern Program in January 2012. Jason assisted in the planning and creation of the NYPTA Regional Student Conclave in Potsdam, NY. He also assisted in the planning of fundraising efforts to assist fellow physical therapy students participating in the APTA’s National Student Conclave and for physical therapy research of the Marquette Challenge. He continues to stay actively involved in the APTA and NYPTA activities, and holds membership in the Orthopedic, Sports, and Hand Therapy sections. Jason has treated patient’s in a variety of settings, including skilled nursing and acute care at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn NY. At various locations throughout Long Island, he performed outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. He also participated in a rigorous outpatient Hand Therapy and Aquatics clinical affiliation in Baltimore County, Maryland. During his Hand Therapy affiliation, Jason had the unique opportunity to work alongside a Certified Hand Therapist. His hand therapy experience included the creation of splints, treating patients with various forearm-hand injuries, and a patient post total elbow replacement. He also completed a clinical experience in the Maitland Australian Physiotherapy concept. Jason enjoys being active and participates in various recreational activities. In his free time, he enjoys weightlifting, kickboxing, skiing, and canoeing. Jason also enjoys participating in other recreational sports and attending sporting events.

Donald Squire, PT, DPT

Don earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Misericordia University in Pennsylvania, where he also received his Bachelor’s Degree in the study of Healthcare Management, graduating magna cum laude. Don has gained clinical experience in both sports and orthopedic outpatient settings, as well as inpatient neurological and sub-acute rehabilitation. Following graduation, Don returned to his native Long Island and developed his skills in a sports/orthopedic clinic, which helped focus his interest on manual therapy, functional rehabilitation programs, and post-operative therapy; especially of the knee, shoulder, and ankle. Don’s interest in physical therapy developed from his long background of competing in athletics at the youth, high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate level. During his undergraduate studies, Don was a member of the Misericordia University Men’s Lacrosse team. He also participated in semi-professional football following his college career. Don’s years of athletics, injuries, and rehabilitation sparked his desire to become a physical therapist and help other athletes/active individuals return to their peak level of fitness and function. While finishing his Doctorate, Don’s love for teaching and developing athletes lead him to become the Varsity Assistant Boys Lacrosse Coach of the local Dallas high school, helping lead the team to a second-place conference finish. His passion for learning has Don studying to obtain his certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. When not helping others maximize their recovery, Don stays active by working out, playing sports, scuba diving, and skiing. In his free time, he loves to travel, spend time with family and friends, attend sporting events, and learn new things.

Amarinder Parmar, PT, DPT

Amarinder received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Touro College and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from St. John’s University. Her interest in pursuing Physical Therapy stems from her desire to play a key role in helping people achieve their goals so they can return to safer and healthier daily lives. She is dedicated to providing attentive, high quality, and individualized care to every patient she treats. She was a platform speaker at the Combined Sections Meeting in 2017 and presented the findings of her research project with her group for the Acute Care Rehabilitation Forum. She acquired her clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics, post-operative rehabilitation, manual techniques, functional training, aquatics, pediatrics, sub-acute, skilled nursing, and inpatient acute settings. She utilizes skills from various settings to formulate a care plan that targets all her patients’ needs and always provides encouragement to keep her patient’s confident and motivated. Amarinder enjoys spending time away from the hustle and bustle of NYC by reconnecting with nature through meditation, hiking, and biking. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with animals, skydiving, learning new art forms, and sunset chasing.

Lukasz Mroz, PT, MS, OMT, PNF

Masters in Physical Therapy, Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist

Lukasz earned his Bachelors and Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Warsaw Medical University in Poland. His clinical experience includes post-operative outpatient/inpatient orthopedics, and sports rehabilitation. During his first job in a private orthopedic clinic, he observed multiple live surgeries, which helped him attain a better understanding of anatomy and biomechanics. Lukasz’s clinical interests include manual therapy, and treating sports related injuries. He is also certified in Orthopedic Manual Therapy (Kaltenborn-Evjenth OMT) as well as Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). During his time at Carolina Medical Center in Warsaw, Lukasz was a member of an elite team, which supported the activities of the Polish National Ballet dancers, and worked with athletes during outdoor sporting events such as running and mountain biking (MTB) marathons. He also participated in a city sponsored postural assessment program for children in elementary schools, and implemented a program of corrective exercises. During his free time, Lukasz likes to stay active with swimming, weight lifting, biking and hiking. He is also extremely passionate about travel, and visiting new countries and cities, but always makes plenty of time for his family and friends.

Jon Bernfeld, PT, DPT

Jon received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from New York University and his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Queens College. Jon’s clinical experience includes orthopedics, acute/sub-acute rehabilitation and adult neurological rehabilitation. Jon has a passion for both neurological and orthopedic rehabilitation and enjoys integrating both aspects into all his treatments. During treatment, he employs Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Technique principles, maximal neural firing and proper muscle recruitment during functional activities. He has a history of treating patients with stroke, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and a variety of orthopedic conditions. Whatever the diagnoses, Jon sees every PT session as an empowering growth opportunity for both patient and Physical Therapist alike. Jon grew up in Brooklyn and plays basketball in the parks, football, tennis and is often biking around the city. When needing to escape the city, Jon is always looking to travel and hike the great outdoors as much as possible. But going to a concert, eating at a deli and hanging out with friends always remind him about the beauty of home. Jon’s dynamic personality, proactivity and keen curiosity have led him to create and host SPEAR’s Embrace Your Core podcast series.

Mithun Abraham, PT, DPT

Mithun Abraham earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Medical College while also completing his Masters in Public Health Policy. Prior to PT school he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology from CUNY Brooklyn College. Mithun has diverse clinical experience and has worked with a variety of patient populations including outpatient orthopedic and post-operative rehab, young athletes, geriatrics, neurological injuries and wound care cases. While in school he worked with the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps to provide valuable PT services to the underserved Native American populations living in rural Arizona. Mithun is passionate about getting patients back their optimal function by utilizing a holistic approach to treatment. He is also greatly interested in the field of public health and PT advocacy which lead him to pursue his MPH degree. While at NYMC the focus of his Doctoral Project was to determine what kinds of personal and financial factors limited patients from seeking PT treatment for non-specific low back pain. While working with the USPHS he also took initiative in raising awareness of the opioid crisis as well as public education about Physical Therapy. Mithun utilizes manual therapy techniques, exercise, modalities and patient education to treat a variety of orthopedic conditions especially of the spine and shoulder which are his main interests. Mithun with born in India and immigrated to the US with his family at a very young age. Growing up on Long Island, Mithun was involved in a variety of sports throughout his high school and undergraduate years including tennis, winter track, soccer and basketball. In his free time Mithun enjoys exploring the outdoors, rock climbing, fishing, reading, drawing and spending time with his dogs.

Luis Gracia, PT, DPT

Luis Gracia has always had a passion for sports, fitness, and most importantly helping others. He received his bachelor’s degree in Toxicology from St. John’s University in Queens. He obtained his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The University of St. Augustine, in St. Augustine, Florida. There he focused on clinical orthopedics with a strong emphasis on manual therapy and developing strong hands-on skills. He is currently on track to obtain his Manual Therapy Certification. Luis has extensive clinical experience in orthopedics working in a private outpatient sports and orthopedic facility in Florida, as well as working with an ACL specialist at Georgetown University Hospital’s outpatient facility. Not only does he have a strong background in orthopedic patient care, his clinical rotations at Glen Cove Rehabilitative Hospital and Brook’s Rehab Hospital in Florida provided him the opportunity to work with post stroke, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury patients where he focused on functional interventions and gait analysis. He enjoys combining the knowledge he learned in all settings to maximize his patient’s rehabilitative process. Outside of work, Luis enjoys staying active by going to the gym, training for and participating in Spartan Races, and plays flag football in the Long Island Flag Football League.

Gina Aicardi, PT, DPT

Gina Aicardi received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University and her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Exercise Science from James Madison University in Virginia. Throughout her education, Gina developed a strong passion for treating a variety of orthopedic conditions, including but not limited to: adult and pediatric sports injuries, dance injuries, post-operative rehab, and many more. She is also enrolled in a Performing Arts Medicine, Masters Certificate Program through the Athletic Training Department at Shenandoah University with a completion date of May 2019. Through her clinical experiences, Gina embraced the opportunity to treat a variety of patient populations in various settings, including skilled nursing, inpatient rehab, as well as a global learning experience treating patients in Nicaragua. Her true passion was found in the outpatient orthopedic setting, where she thoroughly enjoyed developing strong, trusting relationships with the patients, with a primary focus of helping them reach their individualized goals and returning them to a functional, pain-free lifestyle. Gina grew up in the Shenandoah Valley and finds comfort in surrounding herself with nature. She enjoys staying active by working out, hiking, and most of all, dancing. Growing up, Gina’s primary passion was dance. She loved performing and teaching various styles, including tap, modern, and jazz. Gina loves new experiences and hopes to seek out countless adventures in the big city!

Sarah Shoemaker, PT, DPT

Sarah earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University. While at Stony Brook, Sarah was a graduate teaching assistant for undergraduate anatomy where she was able to share her passion and clinical knowledge with aspiring medical professionals. Sarah also traveled to Tanzania, Africa with fellow classmates on a physical therapy mission trip to provide services to underprivileged pediatric patients with neurological and orthopedic dysfunction. Prior to this, Sarah received her Bachelor’s of Education in Exercise and Sports Science, graduating summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. During her time at Alabama, Sarah interned with the athletic training staff assisting in the rehabilitation of Division 1 athletes. Sarah’s clinical experience includes acute care rehabilitation, outpatient orthopedics, pediatrics, aquatic therapy, and neurological rehabilitation. She also has a strong interest in injury prevention within the workplace and sports rehabilitation. Sarah hopes to aid in getting patients’ back to their prior level of function, performing their passions, through patient-centered rehabilitation. Growing up, she was surrounded by athletics as her three brothers were football and baseball players throughout high school and college. She was a volleyball player in high school. Seeing the importance of the recovery process after injury led to her desire to become a Physical Therapist. Today, Sarah enjoys exercising, exploring new places, spending time with friends and family, as well as cheering on the Crimson Tide!
