Joe Costello is the Clinical Director of SPEAR’s Midtown – West 57th Street location. He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Joe received his undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Business Administration from Mount St. Mary College in Newburgh, NY. While at MSMC, Joe was a member of the basketball team and helped start the school’s lacrosse program. He was named captain of the Blue Knights’ inaugural season. Joe started with SPEAR at the 44th Street location as a staff therapist. He was first exposed to physical therapy when he suffered from chronic shoulder injuries in high school sports. He developed a passion for PT as he worked to return to playing. His clinical experience includes orthopedic and sports rehab, extensive spine training from a challenging clinic in South Carolina, cardiac rehabilitation, oncology, and private care. Joe utilizes an individualized approach to tailor each treatment specifically for each patient with a focus on manual therapy. Joe has also taken courses in fascial movement taping and advances for the shoulder and knee to aid his patients’ recovery. In 2016, Joe was awarded certification as a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist from the American Physical Therapy Association. In his free time, Joe enjoys playing pickup basketball, attending sporting events, traveling, hanging with friends and family, and visiting the always beautiful Seneca Lake.

John Mackarey, PT, DPT

John Mackarey earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Temple University in 2017 and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA in 2013. During his time at Temple University, his clinical experience included cardiopulmonary ICU, vestibular/balance, orthopedics, and neurological rehabilitation. These experiences fostered a passion for evidence-based treatment with a special interest in low back and vestibular disorders. It is his intent to formulate treatment plans using the most current physical therapy approaches, supported through research. John implements a variety of manual therapy techniques that are individualized for each of his patients which helps expedite their recovery. John developed a passion for physical therapy at a very young age. He was raised in a family of physical therapists and has been working in a physical therapy clinic since he was 14 years old. Over the years working in these clinics, John developed a love for the unique and ever-changing body of knowledge that defines the profession of physical therapy: an active, dynamic, patient-oriented approach to health and wellness grounded in current wisdom. Furthermore, he values above all, the relationships and personal connections that he establishes with the patients and families he serves. In his free time, John enjoys traveling, cooking, hiking, biking, skiing, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

Martin Del Prado, PT, DPT, CSAC

Martin received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University and his Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University, majoring in Exercise Science: Applied Kinesiology. He grew up playing tennis since the age of 4, later competing at the national level before experiencing a career-ending lower back injury. His love for the game and ambition to optimize sports performance led him to become a personal trainer and tennis coach. After his first year of studying Biomedical Engineering, he quickly realized his passion for rehabilitative medicine and physical therapy. During his time at Columbia, Martin was very involved in research and teaching; he and a team of peers headed a project to research the effects of Strain Counterstrain on patients presenting with Lateral Epicondylitis. He was also a teacher’s assistant for the program’s Anatomy lab and Examination and Evaluation classes.Martin’s clinical experiences allowed him to work with a vast variety of patient presentations. During his clinical experience at SPEAR’s Brooklyn Heights clinic, he was fortunate enough to work with many patients in need of postoperative therapy, helping them get back to performing their daily activities pain-free. He also worked with recreational athletes to return them back to their sports of choice. Martin completed his last clinical experience at Fischer Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was fortunate enough to have met and worked with many high school, collegiate, and professional level athletes of all trades.During his free time, Martin enjoys spending time with his friends and family, playing tennis, weightlifting, playing piano and guitar, and is always looking for a new board game to play.

Joseph Rivieccio earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from SUNY Downstate Medical Center, achieving highest academic honors & receiving the Samuel B. Feitelberg Award for his GPA. During his rotations, he performed rehabilitation on various types of musculoskeletal injuries and post-operative cases. His 3rd rotation at the United States Athletic Training Center in New York focused primarily on rehabilitation of the athlete. Following graduation, he became an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist, eventually holding a leadership position as clinical director. Joseph is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), as well as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) through the American Red Cross. He also holds certifications for Functional Movement Systems (FMSC), Clinical Athlete Weightlifting Coach, Rocktape Basic & Performance Taping, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, Blood Flow Restriction Training, Myofascial Decompression, and Crossfit Level 1 training. Joseph also recently attained his board certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. He is currently in pursuit of his APTA board certification as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS), and is also pursuing a PhD in Exercise Physiology. Aside from working with athletes, he has a particular interest in combining the principles of strength & conditioning and pain science into his active approach to rehabilitation. In his spare time, Joseph enjoys working on his fitness blog which focuses on tips and evidenced based interventions to help optimize performance. He also enjoys doing CrossFit, playing football and baseball, and hanging out with friends and family.
