Lisa Yirce is the Clinical Director of SPEAR’s Chelsea location. She graduated summa cum laude with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stony Brook University. Lisa has extensive clinical experience in sports medicine orthopedics, post-operative rehabilitation, manual therapy, and functional training techniques. She enjoys treating a diverse patient population and is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care through an individualized approach. Lisa leads an active lifestyle and has participated in many sports throughout her life, such as track and field, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. Lisa first found her passion for physical therapy after suffering from an injury herself while running and then undergoing the rehabilitation process first hand. These experiences strengthened her ability to empathize with her patients and to truly relate to their needs when guiding them back to the activities that they love. Lisa was born and raised in New York. She loves exploring the city’s diverse cuisine, spending time with family and friends, and going to concerts and sporting events. Lisa stays active by running and strength training.

Jason Kang, PT, DPT

Jason Kang received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from the University of Scranton. Jason participated in various collegiate intramural sports and was a member of the Men’s Club Volleyball team. Also at Scranton, he participated in a number of charity events, including a service trip to Arizona working with children with neurological disorders. He gained valuable experience in orthopedics and neurological rehabilitation through his rotations. Jason decided to become a physical therapist because he wanted to provide a more direct, hands-on approach to treatment for patients of all ages. Being an athlete all of his life he has a great understanding of the various injuries that can occur throughout the lifespan. Jason also has a special interest in the Pediatric population where he aims to create a fun and focused environment that is engaging for children during their rehabilitation. Lastly, Jason is a TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) certified expert, which allows him to perform golf swing analysis on his patients. During his free time, Jason continues to stay active with competitive basketball and leisure golf. He enjoys trying new things, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and his dog Zoey.

Becca Jones received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from New York University and her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Auburn University. Becca’s clinical experience includes orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, and adult neurological and sub-acute rehabilitation. Becca has a passion for orthopedic and sports rehabilitation and sports injury prevention. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Becca’s clinical interests include manual therapy and functional movement analysis to use an active approach to optimize the human movement experience. Becca enjoys treating a diverse population and is dedicated to using an individualized approach to help her patients get back to doing what they love. Becca was a member of Auburn University’s Swimming and Diving team where she was a NCAA Division I All-American and is a two-time Olympic Trials qualifier for swimming. Becca enjoys staying active with swimming, running, spinning, and weight lifting. During her free time, she enjoys exploring the city, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Justin Horwath earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York University and Bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science and Psychology from Appalachian State University. His clinical experiences involve orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, injury prevention, post-surgical care, and conservative treatments. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and SFMA Level 1 Certified. Justin became a physical therapist for his passion of exercise and the human body. He focuses on combining manual techniques and neuromuscular reeducation to maximize and restore dysfunctional movements patterns. He has been involved in organized sports his entire life and through those experiences, learned many valuable lessons involving the body, injuries and the need for proper training and rehabilitation. Each individual is unique and requires a specific program tailored to their needs and expectations. In his spare time, Justin stays active in a variety of ways. He spends time in the gym weightlifting, playing in soccer leagues in the city, and has recently taken an interest in golf. He also enjoys hiking, snowboarding, cooking and spending time with friends and family.

George Padin, PT, DPT, ATC

George Padin received his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Boston University. During his athletic training education, he worked with a variety of Division I – Division III college sports medicine programs in the Boston area. He continues to work as a per diem athletic trainer. In physical therapy school, George completed clinicals in various cities including Greenville, SC and Phoenix, AZ. While in Phoenix, he had the opportunity to work with professional athletes, particularly those training for the NFL combine. Here he gained an appreciation for return to sport/functional rehabilitation and a foundation in the Maitland manual therapy approach. His physical therapy education ended in a practicum research project on concussion rehabilitation. Growing up, he was a multi-sport athlete. Although he has donated most of his athleticism to his younger brother, he continues to play pick-up basketball and soccer games. Other hobbies include attending live music events, playing music, and fishing.

Blair Carney, PT, DPT

Blair received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Ithaca College, where he also received a bachelor’s degree in clinical health studies, graduating magna cum laude. Through his clinical education, he gained experience in outpatient orthopedic and skilled nursing settings. During his final year at school, Blair completed and presented a research project on low back pain in the professional golf athlete. Outside of academics, Blair participated on the men’s varsity soccer team at Ithaca, serving as a captain during his junior and senior years. He also worked as a personal trainer at the on-campus fitness center, where he instructed students and faculty in proper programming and technique. Blair was first drawn to the physical therapy profession through his interest in the human body and health promotion. As a former collegiate athlete and lifelong lover of sports, he has learned many lessons involving injury and the heartbreak of being sidelined from what you love. It is his goal to educate and empower patients through their condition in order to get them back to their passions, whatever they may be. Blair’s goals for therapy are to keep patients engaged and active throughout each session, while constantly challenging them to reach their goals. In his spare time, Blair stays active in a variety of ways. He spends his time in the gym weightlifting and distance running. He also loves simply exploring the city by foot, hiking national parks, watching professional soccer, and spending time with friends and family.

Shannon Greenwald, PT, DPT

Shannon Greenwald earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and her Pre-Medical Certificate from Columbia University. While earning her doctorate, she also took advanced coursework in orthopedics with a special interest in sports and return to sport for the athlete. She has clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics/sports and in-patient rehab. She is also currently involved in research on return to sport protocols for baseball players following spinal injuries. Shannon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Political Science from Villanova University. She was raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and since graduating high school has lived in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and now, New York City. Shannon’s goals for her patients are to keep them active and having fun. She wants her patients to constantly be striving for their next goal. Shannon aims to have her treatment sessions directed, challenging and rewarding. Shannon has played competitive and social basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball and swimming. When she is not working, you can find her traveling the world with her family and friends, hiking mountains, skiing down slopes, hanging outdoors, playing intramural sports and causing trouble with her pup.

Katie Franke is a Physical Therapist at SPEAR’s Chelsea location. Katie is originally from Chicago, IL. She first came to the east coast to attend the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and Physiology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Katie discovered her passion for physical therapy while volunteering at a school for disabled children in Cape Town, South Africa and decided to pursue a career in the exciting and rewarding field of physical therapy upon returning to the US. She attended the University of Miami, where she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Katie’s clinical interests are rooted in orthopedics. This stems from her unique clinical internships in orthopedics and sports medicine throughout graduate school. Katie treated a broad spectrum of patients in the outpatient orthopedic setting from pediatrics geriatrics. In addition, Katie had the opportunity to treat Crossfit, NFL, and MLB athletes during the off-season where she gained exposure to advanced therapeutic exercise and strength and conditioning principles and their application to high-performing athletes and rehabilitation. Katie further supplemented this knowledge by becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Katie has also worked alongside surgeons and therapists from the world-renowned Paley Orthopedic and Spine institute where she treated adult and pediatric patients following limb lengthening, deformity correction, joint replacement, and other orthopedic surgical procedures. In her spare time, you can find Katie traveling, hanging out with friends and family, and exploring different restaurants and craft breweries. Katie loves the outdoors and staying active. She enjoys hiking, running, racket sports, scuba diving, skiing, rock climbing, and adventure sports.

Carley Schleien, PT, DPT

Carley Schleien earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University, with advanced coursework in Adult Neuro-Rehabilitation. While a student at Columbia, Carley gained valuable experience in treating a wide spectrum of patients in various settings including outpatient orthopedics/sports, acute care, and inpatient rehabilitation. Prior to completing her doctoral studies, Carley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and Spanish from Washington University in St. Louis. Carley has a passion for helping others and working with each of her patients using an individualized plan of care. Carley’s clinical experiences have given her the opportunity to treat a diverse patient population, including patients with low back pain, Parkinson’s Disease, stroke, and post-cardiac surgery. Carley has also fostered her passions for service and research. As a student, she enjoyed volunteering in Guatemala with her colleagues to provide pro-bono physical therapy services and education to the public and local students. She also conducted research on abdominal muscle activation using ultrasound imaging. Through these experiences, she has developed a collaborative and empathetic approach to treat her patients and help them return to the daily activities they enjoy. Born in Westchester, NY and raised in Miami, FL, Carley loves to explore NYC and travel in her free time. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, cooking, seeing the latest movies, and trying new restaurants.

Michelle attended Utica College in New York, where she graduated from the accelerated Doctor of Physical Therapy program. She also completed her undergraduate degree at Utica College, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Health Studies with a minor in Spanish, while also playing collegiate soccer. Michelle’s passion for research has helped her become a published author. Her systematic review of controlled trials has been published in the Journal of Sleep Health and was also presented at the National Applied Ergonomics Conference in 2015. Michelle’s experience and passion lies in orthopedics and sports medicine. In addition to her personal athletic background, she is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She is currently pursuing her Orthopedic Specialist Certification. She truly values taking the time to understand her patients and their needs in order to create the most effective treatment plan. Her one-on-one, patient-focused approach allows her to work with her patients to provide amazing outcomes and help them return to doing what they love. Michelle likes to stay active through spin classes, yoga and running. She enjoys hiking and biking outside. On the weekends, she loves trying new restaurants and exploring different neighborhoods in the city. She also loves to travel and see new cities with friends.

Dustin Baldwin, PT, DPT, CSCS

Dustin Baldwin received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Drexel University after earning his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Hofstra University. His clinical experience includes orthopedics, rehabilitation of D1 athletes, and pediatric rehabilitation. Dustin’s long-time interest in health and fitness naturally evolved into a desire to become a physical therapist. He has worked as a personal trainer since 2016 when he became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), allowing him to facilitate his patients’ return to peak performance. He is also currently involved in a research project to assess the reliability of different running analysis measurements. He particularly enjoys working with pediatric patients, having worked as camp counselor throughout university and volunteered with programs for children with disabilities, including “Back in the Game” and “Give Kids the World.” Dustin’s personal interests include going to the gym, playing golf, taking road trips, hiking, playing basketball, attending concerts, and participating in obstacle course races.

Prior to receiving her doctorate, Kirstin received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from Rutgers University, where she was also a club athlete for the fencing team, serving as squad captain for 3 years. Kirstin’s clinical experiences have allowed her to treat a diverse patient population, including outpatient orthopedics, neurological rehabilitation, geriatrics, post-surgical care, and acute rehabilitation. Dedicated to treating her patients with an individualized plan of care, Kirstin’s passion lies in helping her patients return to the things they love by tailoring programs for the individual while educating and empowering them. In her spare time, Kirstin enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, hiking, playing tennis, and traveling the world as much as she can.
