Direct Access makes self-referral for physical therapy easy in Alaska.

Here are the Direct Access laws in Alaska, as described by the American Physical Therapy Association:

Alaska is one of 18 states that allow patients total, unrestricted access to physical therapy. Under the provisions covering direct access physical therapy in Alaska, no type of physician referral is required for a PT to treat a patient.

However, if the patient’s condition is beyond the physical therapist’s scope of practice after pursuing direct access to physical therapy in Alaska, the therapist is obliged to refer the patient to another qualified healthcare provider. Failure to do this can result in having their license revoked or suspended.

Direct Access lets you self-refer for physical therapy. No prescription required.
